ZEST (Zocular Eyelid System Treatment) is a deep-cleaning procedure for the eyelids
designed to remove biofilm, debris, and bacteria that contribute to dry eye, blepharitis,
and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Using a proprietary okra-based gel, ZEST
exfoliates and revitalizes the eyelid margins, improving tear film stability and overall eye
health. The treatment is gentle, quick, and typically performed in-office by eye care
professionals, providing immediate relief and long-term benefits for patients suffering
from chronic eye irritation.
Demodex are microscopic mites that naturally live on human skin, including the
eyelashes. While they are usually harmless, an overgrowth can lead to irritation,
inflammation, and conditions like blepharitis. Demodex mites feed on dead skin cells
and oils, often causing symptoms such as itching, redness, crusting at the lash line, and
eye discomfort. Managing Demodex infestations typically involves specialized
cleansers, in-office treatments, and good eyelid hygiene to keep their population under
control and maintain healthy lashes.
A Zocular cleanser (containing an okra-based gel) is applied to the eyelids and lashes
using a sterile cotton swab or applicator.
The doctor gently scrubs along the lash line for about 1–2 minutes per eye to remove
bacteria, debris, and demodex mites.
Most patients describe the sensation as a cool, tingly, spa-like feeling with little to no
discomfort.
